
My Story
James ‘Bamboo’ Braxton is one of the most well known antique faces on British television with over 40 years experience in the Art and Antiques world. His strength lies in a rounded general knowledge of antiques and their relevance in history and geographical place. He has worked for the BBC since May 2001 starting with Bargain Hunt in Paris, since then James has filmed in Paris, Dublin, New York and every county of Britain! Combing antique shops, auction houses, antique fairs and car boots for BBC shows: Bargain Hunt, Flog it, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, Antiques Road Trip & Celebrity Antique Road Trip.
James studied art and antiques at the Inchbald School of Design, London, before learning his trade at Gorringes Auction House, Lewes, East Sussex whilst portering during the day he studied at night to qualify for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Fine Arts & Antiques, winning the 1991 Antiques Trade Gazette prize for the best final exam. Shortly afterwards, he bought Edgar Horns Auction House in Eastbourne and Bracketts Auction House in Tunbridge Wells, before founding iBrax.com ‘A better way to bid & buy’ one of the few 1999 Internet start-ups to survive, now sold after acquiring Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Book Auctions.
In May 2012 James bought a 16th Century forming coaching Inn, The Lamb Inn, Wartling, and with his family have transformed it into a successful pub with rooms.
